This April, the EFC Team Gurvinder Chopra and Karen Ewing welcomed the IEC WG19 to EFC headquarters for the first in-person working group meeting since 2019. The scope of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee (TC) 20 is “Electric cables,” and the Working Group (WG) 19 focuses on “Current rating and short-circuit limits of cables.” During this meeting, Dr. George Anders was awarded a lifetime recognition award for his dedication and perfect attendance for nearly 40 years. In 2007, Anders received the 1906 IEC Award, which is granted “in recognition of exceptional recent individual achievements—a project or other specific contribution—which helped advance IEC activities in a significant way.” The last in-person TC20 WG19 meeting occurred in November 2019 in Milan, Italy, before the pandemic. Roberto Gaspari, Meeting Convenor, Nexans, Don Harris, Northern Cables Inc., and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) coordinated this return to the in-person meeting. The next meeting of IEC TC20 WG19 will take place on November 6, 2023, in Vienna, Austria.
